About Maja
Maja was born in the Netherlands and studied cello at the Utrecht Conservatoire. She performed with a number of chamber music ensembles including string quartets, piano trios and the Baroque Consort of the Dom Cathedral in Utrecht.
She first came to Britain to take part in masterclasses with Jacqueline du Pre, Christopher Bunting and Amarylus Fleming. In 1982 she moved to Glasgow where she freelanced with the Scottish National Opera and Scottish Concert Orchestras.
She then moved to Edinburgh where she taught for Lothian County Council and St. George’s School for Girls.
Maja now lives in Norwich and teaches cello both in schools and privately.
In 1988 she wrote Abracadabra Cello in the well-known A&C Black music tuition series. It has since become a standard work for beginners and is now in its third revision.
She is a member of the Dexterity Trio www.dexteritymusic.co.uk.
